CCSN: Pay attention to regular cleaning of parts in diesel generator sets

In the maintenance of diesel generator sets, it is often necessary to clean the oil, carbon deposits, scale and rust on the surface of parts. Because the nature of various dirt is different, its eradication methods are also different. In this article, I will briefly introduce the cleaning method of the parts in the diesel generator set.

(1) Oil stain.  When the oil stain on the surface is thick, it should be scraped off first. Generally, the oil stain on the surface of the parts should be cleaned in hot cleaning solution. The commonly used cleaning solutions include alkaline cleaning solution and synthetic detergent. When using alkaline cleaning solution for hot cleaning, heat to 70-90°C, immerse the parts for 10-15 minutes, then take them out, rinse them with clean water, and dry them with compressed air. Note: It is not safe to use gasoline to clean; aluminum alloy parts cannot be cleaned in strong alkaline cleaning solution; non-metallic rubber parts should be cleaned with alcohol or brake fluid.

(2) Eradication of carbon deposits.  Eradication of carbon deposits can use a simple mechanical eradication method, that is, eradication with a metal brush or scraper, but this method is not easy to remove the carbon deposits, and it is easy to damage the surface of the parts. It is best to use chemical methods to eradicate carbon deposits, that is, first use a carbon remover (chemical solution) to heat to 80-90°C to expand and soften the carbon deposits on the parts, and then use a brush to eradicate them.

(3) Scale eradication. Scale generally adopts the chemical eradication method, and the chemical solution for eradicating scale is added to the coolant. After the engine in the diesel generator set has been operating for a certain period of time, the coolant is replaced. Commonly used chemical solutions for eradicating scale include: caustic soda solution or hydrochloric acid solution, sodium fluoride hydrochloric acid descaling agent and phosphoric acid descaling agent. Phosphoric acid descaling agent is suitable for eradicating scale on aluminum alloy parts.
